The l5 was the first and best selling model of the series, aimed at competing with the fender twin reverb It was a two channel, 100 watt amp with spring reverb and two 12 speakers Bright mode, volume, bass, midrange, treble. The lab series amps were made at moog, which was owned by norlin at the time So, they were marketed through gibson dealers, as were the gibson road series amps of the same vintage. The lab series l5 was built by norlin using both gibson and moog resources

The lab series l5/7/9/11 amps are the best solid state amps i have heard They can be very versatile amps and can mimic a wide variety of tube amp sounds fairly accurately if the user understands the controls. 2) at 100 watts (true rms) the lab series amps can get louder and offer more clean headroom than most vintage fenders.
