The presidency of jomo kenyatta began on 12 december 1964, when jomo kenyatta was named as the 1st president of kenya, and ended on 22 august 1978 upon his death. While president of the nationalist kenya african union, jomo kenyatta was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment in 1953 in alleged connection with the violent mau mau rebellion that began in 1952.
