Bypass surgery involves using a graft to create a new pathway for blood around the blockage. The most common is a aortic bifemoral bypass with a midline incision The incision runs from just below your ribs right smack dab in front allll the way down to your pubic bone. Aortobifemoral bypass is a form of vascular disease bypass surgery that surgeons perform in your abdomen (belly) It’s an open surgery that creates a new route (bypass) for blood to flow around narrowed or blocked portions of your arteries. The goal of the surgery is to redirect blood flow around a blocked artery and reduce symptoms for at least 10 years, provided precautions are taken.
If high blood pressure persists and is severe or if kidney function is deteriorating, doctors may do angioplasty or bypass surgery to restore blood flow to the kidney.
