Alpert was the son of immigrant jews from romania and the ukraine, most of whom already played some sort of instrument. The second touring tijuana brass, was known as the t.j.b And toured in 1974 and 1975 Original tijuana brass members were john pisano, bob edmondson, and julius wechter. When alpert formed a new tijuana brass in the 1970’s, the group would include a handful of alumni and some new tjb members The second band was known as herb alpert & the t.j.b
A third incarnation of the group came together to tour after herb released the bullish album in 1984. Used studio musicians until early 1965, then formed his own band, the tijuana brass During the 60's, they had many memorable instrumental hits, such as a taste of honey (#7), tijuana taxi (#38), and spanish flea (#27), better known as the theme to the tv show the dating game. Herb alpert & the tijuana brass emerged as a prominent musical group in the 1960s, led by the renowned trumpet player, composer, businessman, and bandleader herb alpert. Tijuana brass members kris bergh (trumpet), ryan dragon (trombone), kerry marx (guitar), hussain jiffrey (bass), ray brinker (drums) and bill cantos (piano, marimba) watched intently for alpert’s orders, instantaneously speeding up or softening the sound as required.
