Abasia refers to lack of motor coordination in walking The term abasia literally means that the base of gait (the lateral distance between the two feet) is inconstant or unmeasurable. The term ‘astasia’ means inability to stand and ‘abasia’ refers to the inability to walk properly Patients of this disorder are, however, able to move their legs naturally while walking or lying down.
