Who knows, maybe there is a way for something like this to be released if enough people wanted or maybe it's just wishful thinking However, i have an idea for a “new” version of the game called 2004scape that would fuel nostalgia All of these servers are open source and looking for developers They're all great, so if you're looking for a fun vanilla experience i would recommend you pick the era you like the most and go with it from there. 951k subscribers in the 2007scape community The community for old school runescape discussion on reddit

Achievement diaries are a good goal to work towards The rewards are valuable and it has you do a mix of skilling and quests, and you'll find mini goals for yourself along the way Another good one is starting to gather teleports Fairy tale quests for fairy rings, crafting and magic to make and enchant jewelry (and teleport spells), gnome quest for spirit trees, eventually construction to put.
