After having started her studies at the faculty of science in paris, she served as a nurse radiographer during the first world war. After the war she assisted her mother at the radium institute in paris, meanwhile completing her doctorate. While she was not a part of the manhattan project, her earlier research was instrumental in the creation of the atomic bomb.
