In my insomniatic state that woke me up at 430 this morning i got to thinking about adding spirulina powder to the bbs i hatch in the brine shrimp direct hatchery plate and i was wondering if anyone else does this with their live bbs I know with the frozen spirulina bs offered they just soak. Chlorella, spirulina, and *other phytoplankton would work well It may be cheaper, however, to use spirulina powder that you buy A small amount goes a long way towards gut loading the bbs, especially since it's dry! I’ve been using spirulina powder in various food concoctions for years with no issues
Having said that, commercial frozen and pellet foods have gotten good enough that i don’t go the diy route much any more Nori sheets, nls algae max pellets and nyos true algae pelllets provide the bulk of my plant matter This is added to fresh clams, live foods and a few other. Well, i thought i had cyanobacteria (red slime & bubbles) and had been battling it for a while using h2o2 and other means but to no avail After sending a sample for evaluation, it was determined that i had an outbreak of spirulina and not cyanobacteria Spirulina is nothing new to the salty world, but could intentional dosing, regularly, perhaps balance the algae relationship, in essence, allowing marine and calcifying algae to thrive
